The Community of Hope Lutheran Church was founded in 1881 and continues its service even into 2008. We're conviently located just minutes from Dayton, Ohio's downtown, in one of the largest historic districts in the state. The entire neighborhood is listed on the National Register, and we're pleased that our 100+ year-old building stands proudly as one of the city's landmarks. We worship each Sunday at 10:30 am, with Holy Communion celebrated nearly every week. We welcome visitors, and are an all-inclusive congregation. You're only a stranger once in the Community of Hope! Join us any time, or call for additional information.
(Proudly a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America!)
At Hope Lutheran Church, we subscribe to the teachings of Martin Luther that proclaim ALL men to be saved by the Grace of God alone...not by works....not by our tithes or good works....not by indulgences.
We are a traditional congregation, relying heavily on the beautiful music and classic hymns made famous throughout Christendom. And, as a parish of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, we are a liturgical church, which means the congregation participates fully in worship, from the opening public confession to the "sending dialog". On occasion, though, we intersperse our worship experience with more contemporary hymnody. We celebrate the seasons of the church year with joy and endeavor to make each day's worship experience a mini festival in itself.
We are also a community dedicated to serving others, not because we must, but because we want to, as a way of showing our corporate love for God. We are proud to be a member congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America's Southern Ohio Synod and we contribute regularly to the corporate missions of these bodies.
In addition, we are active supporters of our neighborhood association--Historic South Park, Inc., which meets in our facility on the 4th Tuesday of every month. And, we are pleased to offer the South Park Gallery and Co-op for our local artists to showcase their works in special showings or on a continuing basis. We also graciously serve as the gathering space for seasonal neighborhood tours of our beautifully restored homes and gardens.
As a parish rooted in the beauty of music, we are pleased to make our beautiful facility available as a teaching site for professional vocal, piano and organ instruction and to host numerous recitals. And the Community of Hope, living out our love for all of God's creatures, also provides a home base for the Dayton area Pet Advocate League, a 501C3 organization offering a low-cost feline spay and neuter program to all residents. We also sponsor an annual "Blessing of the Pets" in one of our well-maintained green spaces.
We are a founding parish of Jeremiah's Letter, Inc., an urban ministry of numerous Dayton-area Lutheran churches, that sponsors twice-weekly luncheons for the homeless, coordinates Christmas adopt-a-family programs, conducts youth-oriented programs at various sites and also provides emergency food and hygiene products for the homeless and disadvantaged.
Active in our neighborhood....active in our city....active in our world....we're a small, but busy congregation. And, if you're looking for a church home (or just a neat place to visit for an uplifting worship experience) come and see! The Community of Hope might just be the perfect fit for your spiritual growth.
